Who We Are
Nickel Jukebox is a Rhode Island based “Mostly Motown” band with beginnings in 2010. Original drummer and founder Dave Perluck called these tunes the “New American Songbook” and the band celebrates this great music from Detroit. The tunes of Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gay, The Four Tops, The Temptations and many others are joyfully brought to life. Some of the numbers are done faithfully, but others might contain elements of country, rock, blues, gospel, jazz, jam band, funk, and even reggae.
Angela B., female lead vocals, has been singing for years in both musical groups and theater. Angela is a dynamic vocalist, funny and entertaining as the groups' MC.
Michelle Hill is a fabulous singer who has been playing in assorted RI bands for years.
Allan Raskin covers keyboards and reeds, has played in 20 or so bands, and was a founder of Slow Drive with Arna. He also presently plays in the South County bands Stone Cold Gypsies and Matunuck Wind. Allan works as an ER Doctor and is the director of the Classical High Rock and Jazz Band. His daughter is Roz Raskin of WBRU Rock Hunt winners The Ricecakes and Nova1. Son Zack is a wonderful jazz pianist and hip hop producer.
Guitarist Peter Mandelson was also a founder of Slow Drive with Arna. He has played in many bands and is a talented multi-instrumentalist adding bass, piano, and drums. By day he is a Cardiologist.
Guitarist George Dandurand is a veteran guitarist and bassist of the RI rock scene for many years. He has been a long time member of the Rhode Island Rednecks and has played in several other bands including the Stone Cold Gypsies with Allan.
Bassist Richard Ribb is a highly sought veteran RI bassist and guitarist as well. He plays literally dozens of gigs each year in rock, blues, country and jazz with several groups.
Drummer/Background vocalist Mark Vadnais is a Berklee graduate, has played in tons of bands on land and on sea, and presently teaches music in Barrington during the day.
The band has had highly enthusiastic receptions wherever and whenever they have played. Wonderful songs such as “My Girl” and “My Guy”, “Heatwave,” and “Heard it Through the Grapevine” are timeless. The group features dynamic vocals by Angela and Michelle and cool arrangements played by talented veteran musicians. They have an amazingly solid rhythm section anchored by Ribb and Vadnais. Nickel Jukebox is available for club dates or private functions and is surprisingly affordable.
